Find your Oahu

Honest answer first: Oahu is the island for people who want a little of everything without island-hopping. World-famous beaches, real history at Pearl Harbor, rainforest hikes, and a genuine food scene — all within about an hour's drive. If this is your first Hawaii trip, Oahu is the easiest yes of the islands.

You'll love it here if you like variety: a morning snorkeling Hanauma Bay, an afternoon at Pearl Harbor, plate lunch from a truck, sunset on Waikiki — that's a normal Tuesday. Families do especially well here, because everything is close and there's always a plan B.

You might prefer a different island if what you want is total seclusion (that's Kauai's lane) or raw volcano country (the Big Island). And if your idea of a vacation is never leaving the resort pool — Oahu will still work, but you'd be missing the point, and the point is wonderful.
