How a longtime Oahu visitor turned hundreds of trips into the guide he wished he'd had.

Why this site exists

The Real Oahu, From Someone Who Lives For It

Aloha — I'm Michael. I've been visiting Oahu for many years now, and somewhere along the way it stopped being a vacation and became part of my life. Hundreds of trips. Hundreds of sunrises, snorkel sessions, wrong turns, plate lunches, and lessons learned the hard way.

I built this site because the travel guides I found never showed me the Oahu I actually experienced. They showed the postcards — the building exteriors, the staged shots, the same five paragraphs everyone copies from everyone else. They didn't tell me which side of Shark's Cove the fish actually are, or that Hanauma Bay reservations sell out in minutes at 7 AM sharp, or that you can walk straight past the best turtle viewing at Laniakea if you don't know where to look.

So this is my Oahu. The photos here will be my own — from my own trips, the actual experiences, the "wow, where IS that?" moments (stock shots are standing in until my camera takes over). The Top 10 list is my personal list, argued over and refined across years of visits. The tips are the ones I'd give a friend standing next to me on the sand.

My mission is simple: help you skip the rookie mistakes and see the island the way people who love it see it. If this site saves you one missed reservation, one burned afternoon in a rental car, or one "we were right next to it and didn't know" — then it did its job.

More than a website

The OahuX2 Community

This site doesn't live in a vacuum. I run a free Facebook group called OahuX2 — a community of Oahu lovers sharing trip photos, local tips, and the kind of inside knowledge you only get from people who've been there.

Going to Oahu soon? Post your itinerary and get real feedback from people who've done it. Just got back? Share your photos and help the next traveler. It's free to join, new posts go up daily, and it's the natural home for everything this site starts: the stories, the pictures, the arguments about the best shave ice.

The OahuCoins Connection

One more thing about me: I'm also the guy behind OahuCoins.com, where I make premium challenge coins of Oahu's landmarks — Pearl Harbor, Waikiki, the Dole pineapple, and more. Each one is 5mm thick with UV 3D artwork on both sides, made to be the kind of keepsake you actually keep.

That's why you'll see matching coin links on the landmark pages of this site. You visit the USS Arizona Memorial, you feel something — and you can take home a coin that holds onto that feeling. It's the same love of this island, just in a form you can hold in your hand.
